• Old F.G.Metzger Lebkuchen Tin

  • $37.50 USD

  • Description

Very old example of a lebkuchen tin from F.G. Metzger in Nürnberg, I would say it is likely from the very early 1900's, pre WWI. It has some wear, but still rather nice for its age. The bottom is marked Kgl. - an abbreviation of Königlich, signifying royal ownership. Surprisingly, the bottom of the tin is very good and very well decorated which is extremely unusual for these tins. The newest award mentioned on the bottom is from 1906. Lebkuchen are a type of cookie, popular in Nürnberg and also popular around Christmas.
