description: I bought these boxes ages ago before I even had a website. I planned on refinishing them myself but now time is short and my sand blaster is out of order. This is the mid-late war simplified version of the Verbandkasten. All of the good boxes have good interiors; If the box is either very pitted on the outside or has a bad interior then it is a basket case. All boxes have at least surface rust over most of the outside and a few have areas of pitting. The latches all work but some are stiff.
They need work but will make great boxes for small parts and look great in camp if you are a reenactor. You would probably expect to pay $90+ for a nice original that didn't need refinished and then taking it in the field would diminish its value. This is a great project for the new guy in the unit; break them in, test their skills.
To use the stencil I recomend applying very weak masking tape over the stencil to hold all the little bits together. This will generally make it easier. I will not put the tape on for you because if it isn't used quickly the tape can stick to he stencil ruining it.
On an interesting side note, I do have a box with original paint that did not have the center parts of the leters stencile; By that I mean the e's, b, a's, and d are all solid. Its a neat look.
For these boxes the primary color is ordinance tan with white text and a red cross.
When painting your box if you make the base color panzer gray then the text could be made ordnance tan rather than white. I have two originals done this way.
